As more time passed, sleep caught up with Kwan and he passed out on the floor, resting his head against the cold bench. His dreams veered between extremes. One moment he was with Su-Jin, his head cradled in her soft hands as she whispered sweet nothings into his ear, dissolving his fears and easing the knot in his stomach. The next he was sweating and cringing in pain in a dark damp basement. Every moment felt real. He twitched in his sleep, muttering incoherently under his breath.

‘Kwan!’ a faraway voice called out to him.

In the darkness he heard ominous sounds of metallic clanging. He heard voices, voices of damned souls…

‘Kwan! Wake up!’

He awoke with a start to see Aiden above him. ‘What? What happened?’ he gasped, collecting himself as he realized where he was.

‘There is someone who can help us,’ said Aiden, his eyes sparkling. Kwan looked up at him, rubbing his eyes vigorously to rid the sleep.

‘Who … Oh no. Ayaan can’t get us out of here.’

‘No, but he can get to Su-Jin.’
